Nissan Tekton teased ahead of July 9 debut

Share

Nissan India has released a fresh teaser of the Tekton ahead of its reveal on July 9. The carmaker’s version of the Renault Duster was originally slated to debut in February, but that did not materialise. The Tekton will mark Nissan’s return to the midsize SUV segment following the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023.

  2. 10.1-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof and ADAS among expected features

Nissan Tekton teaser details

Details such as connected LED headlights and massive ‘TEKTON’ lettering on the bonnet and tailgate have been teased before, but a full-width red colour strip on the front grille is new. Duster-like pull-type door handles at the front and C-pillar-mounted ones at the rear, multi-spoke alloy wheels and a twin-ridge spoiler are among the other exterior highlights.

Nissan Tekton’s exterior details shown in teasers so far.

The tail-lights have a C-shaped signature, which is a nod to Nissan’s Patrol flagship SUV. In fact, in the latest teaser video, the Tekton can be seen beside the Patrol and termed as the “baby Patrol”. As we reported, Nissan is keen to launch the Patrol in India and could showcase it during the Tekton’s reveal next month.

Nissan Tekton powertrains

Like the Duster, the Tekton will offer 100hp 1-litre and 163hp 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine options. Similarly, a 6-speed manual gearbox will be offered with both engines, but an automatic gearbox – a 7-speed DCT in this case – will be limited to the more powerful mill.

Duster’s 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine is pictured here for representative purposes only.

Speaking to Autocar India earlier, Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise stated that the carmaker will introduce more affordable automatic variants for the Duster without specifying the transmission type or the engine it will be paired with. Once it is launched, Nissan could opt for a similar approach with the Tekton as well. It remains to be seen if the Tekton gets the 160hp 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain, which will be offered with the Duster by Diwali.

Nissan Tekton price expectations

The Tekton is likely to be priced similarly to the Duster, which starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.69 lakh for the top-spec turbo-petrol variant. In addition to the Duster, the Tekton will take on SUVs such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris.
