Kia Syros EV all details leaked ahead of launch

Kia has unofficially started bookings of the Syros EV for a token amount of Rs 25,000. It will be the second ICE-to-EV converted model in Kia India’s portfolio. Days ahead of its launch, the Kia Syros EV was spied undisguised, giving a glimpse of what it would look like once in our market. Our dealer sources have hinted at a launch by the end of this month, along with its powertrain options. 

Kia Syros EV spied: What was spotted?

The Kia Syros EV looks largely similar to its ICE version, but with subtle differences to set it apart. The front-end sees a slimmer grille, while the bumper is slightly revised. Details like the vertical ‘ice cube’ LED headlamps and body-coloured triangular elements on the bumper are carried over. 

In profile, the Syros EV looks similar to its ICE counterpart, carrying over details like a thick B-pillar, a rising kink for the windowline at the C-pillar, and cladding for the wheel arches and the lower sides of the doors. Notably, there’s a new design for the dual-tone alloy wheels, which are expected to be 17 inches in size. Additionally, the car shown had its front flush doors in an ‘open’ position, suggesting that the front door handles could feature motorised opening functionality. 

The only bit of the Syros EV’s rear that is a differentiator is ‘EV’ badging on the tailgate. It continues to carry the same vertical LED tail-lamps and L-shaped signatures mounted higher, and a black bumper with the same triangular elements as seen at the front.   

On the inside, the Syros EV was spotted with a similar layout to its ICE version. The dual-tone three-spoke steering wheel is carried over, but it gets paddle shifters to adjust regen. There was also a dual-screen setup for the infotainment and digital driver’s displays, and physical buttons lower down for media and HVAC controls. Additionally, a dash cam and USB ports were also spotted. Features like a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, and rear-seat base ventilation could also be part of the equipment. It remains to be seen whether the Syros EV will get an ADAS suite, given that it was discontinued in the MY26 update for the ICE Syros.

Kia Syros EV: What do we know so far?

Our dealer sources have stated that the Kia Syros EV will offer the same battery packs as found on the Carens Clavis EV. This includes a 42kWh battery pack for the standard-range version and a larger 51.4kWh battery pack for the long-range versions. Additionally, they mentioned that ARAI-claimed ranges for the 42kWh and 51.4kWh versions would be about 420km and 520km, respectively. The battery packs are expected to be paired to a front-mounted motor; however, power figures remain under wraps.

Dealer sources also told us that the Syros EV is likely to have a price range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and the MG Windsor.
