JSW Motors will unveil the Combat on December 4, marking its entry into India’s automotive market as a fresh standalone brand. This follows our exclusive report in September, which revealed the Combat name for the upcoming SUV based on the Jetour T2. The JSW Combat will be a 5-seater plug-in-hybrid that will be assembled at the manufacturer’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (previously Aurangabad) facility.
The Jetour T2 recently received a facelift internationally, but numerous spy shots in India suggest JSW Motors will offer the pre-facelift model in the country. It was originally planned to debut by Diwali but has now been delayed to December.
The India-spec JSW Combat is expected to feature a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, an 18.4kWh battery and two electric motors driving the front wheels (FWD). Paired with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), the system produces a combined output of 360hp and 610Nm of torque. It offers a claimed all-electric range of 90km on the NEDC cycle, while the combined range with a full fuel tank is rated at up to 1,100km.
The JSW Combat is expected to have a design similar to the Jetour T2, but previous spy shots suggest slightly revised headlights and front and rear bumpers. New ‘Combat’ lettering is likely to replace the ‘Jetour’ at the front. Along with a boxy silhouette, the 20-inch alloy wheels, the generous wheel-arch cladding, roof rails with neon green design elements, a spare wheel mounted on the boot door and vertically oriented LED tail-lights are expected to be retained.
Inside, the 5-seater JSW Combat is expected to have an upright dashboard flanked by a huge 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a four-spoke steering wheel, likely with a JSW Motors badge. In terms of features, the international-spec model gets a 6-way powered driver’s seat, a 4-way powered co-driver’s seat, ventilation and memory functions for the front seats and a 12-speaker Sony sound system. On the safety front, it gets 6 airbags, a 540-degree camera (offering underbody and surround view) and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The India-spec JSW Combat is expected to have a similar feature suite.
It is understood that JSW Motors is keen to price the Combat aggressively, possibly in the range of Rs 40 lakh to 50 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will lock horns with the Kia Sorento, and its rugged underpinnings are expected to place it squarely against the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.
JSW Motors is an upcoming independent passenger vehicle brand owned by the JSW Group. It is a separate entity from JSW MG Motor India, which is a joint venture between the JSW Group and China’s SAIC Motor. Under a licensing and component supply partnership with China’s Chery Automobile, JSW Motors plans to introduce a range of Chery-based vehicles bearing a JSW badge. The first model to arrive will be the Jetour T2-based Combat, followed by SUVs derived from the Jaecoo J5 and iCaur V23 in 2027.
