BMW to launch all-wheel-drive M2 M xDrive in India

Share

The BMW M2 M xDrive Coupe is going to launch in India, our sources indicate. It is essentially the all-wheel-drive version of the most accessible ‘M’ model in BMW’s lineup, which debuted globally on June 3. Currently, the BMW M2 is offered only as an RWD model in a standard and CS avatar.

  1. Rear-biased AWD system helps a 0.3s quicker 0-100kph time
  2. Powered by the same 480hp, 3.0-litre 6-cyl turbo-petrol engine
  3. No design differences compared to the standard RWD BWM M2

BMW M2 AWD: Powertrain details

Gets the same engine as the RWD M2, but clocks a 0.3s faster 0-100kph time

The BMW M2 M xDrive Coupe is powered by the same 3.0-litre straight-six turbo-petrol engine that produces 480hp and 600Nm. The engine features a new ‘pre-chamber combustion process’ patented by BMW for its straight-six engines, which the manufacturer claims “significantly reduces fuel consumption under high loads.” This technology will be “introduced into all straight-six engines from BMW M as of mid-2026.”

The engine is mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, which sends power to all the wheels (AWD). The M xDrive system BMW-speak for the AWD setup is rear-wheel-biased and sends power to the front wheels when the rear loses traction. It also gets an ‘Active M Differential’ that maximises traction. The M xDrive system’s behaviour is configurable via the M Setup menu, with a ‘2WD mode with DSC deactivated’ setup, which the brand claims “unlocks a driving experience of remarkable purity.”

The AWD M2, BMW claims, does a 0-100kph sprint in 3.7 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the standard RWD model. It takes 12.8 seconds to reach 200kph, before maxing out at an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. An optional ‘M Driver’s Package’ can bump up the top speed to 285kph.

BMW M2 AWD: Design changes

Offered with a new blue exterior hue, but has the same design as the RWD version

The exterior design of the all-wheel-drive BMW M2 is the same as the standard RWD version. It continues with a sports coupe silhouette featuring an elongated bonnet and a short rear end. It gets sleek LED headlights with U-shaped LED DRLs, a staggered wheel setup with 19-inch rims at the front and 20-inch rims at the rear, and LED tail-lights. The only addition is a new ‘Borusan Turkish Blue’, which BMW says is available on the M2 for the first time.

Gets a new drivetrain menu with selectable modes

Inside, the BMW M2 M xDrive is identical to the coupe’s rear-wheel-drive version. It is equipped with the same curved-screen setup that integrates a driver-focused 14.9-inch infotainment and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. However, it gets a new drivetrain menu that integrates three drive modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. The M Sport seats, however, are identical to the RWD model, with leatherette upholstery and an illuminated M badge on the headrest.

A launch timeline of the BMW M2 M xDrive is unknown. Currently, the BMW M2 is available in two trims: a standard Coupe with manual and automatic variants, and a CS with an automatic gearbox. Prices currently start at Rs 1.06 crore (ex-showroom).
