BMW has made the M3 Competition and M5 Touring available in India by way of limited-run ‘100 Jahre Nurburgring’ editions, bookings for which are now open. Alongside the M5 Touring and M3 Competition, 100 Jahre Nurburgring editions of the M5 sedan, M2 xDrive and M4 Competition are also on offer. BMW has not yet specified how many units of these special edition cars will be available.
These 100 Jahre Nurburgring editions commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Germany’s famed Nurburgring circuit, also known as the Green Hell. Measuring 20.8km, the Nurburgring is the longest racetrack in the world and plays host to endurance races, DTM championships, Grand Prix races and even testing for upcoming performance cars.
On the outside, the 100 Jahre Nurburgring Editions bear an exclusive ‘Nurburgring Green’ finish, along with commemorative decals of the Nurburgring layout and “100 Year” stickers. The wheels are also blacked out and feature bright-green accents.
The interior gets a black finish with green-and-white contrast stitching on the seats and steering wheel, exclusive door sills, Nurburgring layout embroidery on the seat headrests and a commemorative plaque on the centre console.
The arrival of the M5 Touring is especially notable as it is BMW India’s first estate offering. Unveiled in 2024, the Touring is the estate version of the M5 sedan and gets the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain developing 727hp and 1,000Nm, an 8-speed torque-converter automatic and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) layout. 0-100kph comes up in a claimed 3.6 seconds, the top speed is electronically limited to 250kph (305kph with the optional M Driver’s package), and the pure-electric range is rated at up to 67km by WLTP. Estate launches are exceedingly rare in the Indian market, making the M5 Touring a breath of fresh air.
While BMW launched the current-gen M4 in India, its four-door counterpart, the M3, didn’t make its way here up until now. The M3 Competition xDrive retains the M4’s 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six producing 530hp and 650Nm, an 8-speed torque-converter automatic and AWD layout. BMW claims a 0-100kph time of 3.5 seconds and a 250kph top speed (290kph with optional M Driver’s package).
We reported that an AWD variant of the M2 was set to launch in India, and the 100 Jahre Nurburgring appears to be the first version of it. The M2 xDrive is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six that makes 480hp and 600Nm, funnelled to all four wheels via an 8-speed torque-converter automatic. Thanks to the AWD layout, the M2 xDrive achieves 0-100kph in a claimed 3.7 seconds – 0.3 seconds quicker than the RWD model – and the top speed is rated at 250kph (285kph with the M Driver’s package).
