After previewing the facelifted Tiago petrol, Tata Motors has now released a new video revealing the CNG (iCNG in brand speak) version’s interior and exterior. The latest video confirms paddleshifters for the AMT (automated manual transmission), making it a segment-first feature. Otherwise, there is not much to separate the CNG model from its petrol counterpart, aside from the CNG-specific bits. Prices for the Tiago facelift will be announced on May 28.
No mechanical changes are expected. The current Tiago petrol has a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that produces 86hp. In the Tiago CNG, output drops to 75.5hp. A 5-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while a 5-speed AMT is offered as an option on both petrol and CNG versions. The space-saving dual-cylinder CNG setup will continue in the facelifted model. The Tiago’s direct start-in-CNG feature is also expected to be carried over.
Like the petrol model, the Tiago CNG gets two free-standing screens: a touchscreen and a driver’s display. The central screen appears to be the same 10.25-inch unit, but the old LCD driver’s display has been replaced by a digital one for a more modern appeal. The dashboard has also been redesigned and now gets a layered layout instead of the swooping design seen on the current car. A 360-degree camera setup, two wireless charging pads, a rotary gear selector and push-button start/stop are also part of the package.
Most of the changes are to the soft parts, but they give the hatchback a more modern look overall. The updated Tiago gets new bumpers, redesigned LED headlamps and tail-lamps connected by contrasting bands, along with a new design for the alloy wheels.
The current Tiago CNG MT is priced between Rs 5.54 lakh and Rs 7.4 lakh, while the AMT variants range from Rs 7.32 lakh to Rs 7.92 lakh, ex-showroom. We expect the prices to increase by around Rs 30,000, depending on the variant. As before, the Tiago CNG will rival the likes of the Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
