Bike and scooter sales remain flat month-on-month in May 2026

Monthly sales numbers for the top six heavyweights in the Indian two-wheeler market have been released for the scorching hot month of May. Here’s how each brand performed.

Hero: 5,36,784 units

Hero continued its reign at the top of the pile in terms of monthly two-wheeler sales, reporting a minuscule 0.82 percent increase last month from 5,32,433 units in April 2026. Compared to May 2025 (4,88,997 units), it reported a 9.77 percent increase. It bears mentioning that Hero bundles in the burgeoning sales of its electric arm, Vida, into this number.

Speaking of Vida, the company has several products waiting in the wings for market launch, including a couple of electric motorcycles and a sub-Rs 1 lakh electric scooter. Interestingly, the company has also begun retail sales of its Dirt.E K3 kids’ electric off-road bike. Hero’s export business was more or less the same last month, when it shipped 33,284 units overseas compared to 33,653 units in April.

Honda: 4,59,611 units

As always, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India was hard on the heels of Hero in second spot, albeit it reported a 5.04 percent decline from April 2026’s 4.84 lakh units. However, compared to 4,17,250 units in the year-ago period, Honda reported a 10.15 percent increase. The company has recently patented the ADV160 maxi-scooter in India, and it remains to be seen if this product sees the light of day here or remains off-limits, like other products it has patented previously. Honda’s export business saw a slowdown last month, as it sent 59,166 units overseas as against 79,600 units in April.

TVS: 3,84,565 units

TVS remains in its usual number three spot, but if anything, it is much closer to Honda ahead of it than Bajaj behind it, and the company is closing in on the 4 lakh unit mark in terms of monthly sales. In doing so, TVS reported a 10.33 percent increase in sales compared to April 2026 (3,48,545 units). Year-on-year, it posted a healthy 24.34 percent increase from 3,09,287 units. It is worth mentioning that TVS doesn’t bundle the sales of its EVs – shouldered largely by the popular iQube, India’s bestselling electric two-wheeler – into the aforementioned numbers.

TVS exported 1,58,546 two-wheelers in May, which is a significant increase over the already substantial 1,06,788 units it sent overseas in April.

Bajaj: 2,09,528 units

Bajaj is in its de facto number four spot, and it reported a marginal 0.25 percent decrease last month compared to 2,10,063 units in April. That said, its sales rose 9.46 percent year on year from 1,91,412 units in May 2025. It must be noted that the Chetak electric scooter portfolio and all sub-400cc Triumph and KTM models manufactured by Bajaj are also bundled into the above figures. A new dualsport Bajaj motorcycle akin to a Hero Xpulse has been spotted testing and is slated to launch in the coming months.

Bajaj’s international business, too, slowed down last month, as it exported 1,83,676 units compared to the 2,29,890 units in April.

Suzuki: 1,10,028 units

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported its highest-ever monthly sales last month, recording a 12.27 percent increase over 98,004 units in April 2026. Compared to May last year (1,07,780 units), the company reported a small 2.09 percent increase. Suzuki recently gave the Burgman Street its first proper overhaul, and the model has crossed 14 lakh cumulative sales since its launch in 2018. Last month, Suzuki shipped 22,216 units abroad, an increase over the 19,510 units in April.

Royal Enfield: 94,115 units

Royal Enfield’s sales dropped by 9.62 percent from 1,04,129 units in April 2026. However, year-on-year, the company reported a 24.13 percent increase from 75,820 units. Royal Enfield recently launched the new Bullet 650 Twin, its largest motorcycle bearing the revered ‘Bullet’ badge yet. As for exports, it fared slightly better last month, shipping 9,116 units as compared to 9,035 units in April.
