Volkswagen has unveiled the ID Polo GTI as the first electric model with the performance-oriented GTI badge. It is offered with the higher-spec 52kWh battery from the recently revealed standard Polo EV but packs a more powerful motor. Compared to the standard all-electric Polo, it has distinct design elements, a new black-and-red interior theme, adaptive suspension and a front locking differential.
The Volkswagen ID Polo GTI’s 52kWh battery pack, with a WLTP-rated range of 424km, comes mated to a front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor. This setup produces 226hp and 229Nm, enabling a claimed 0-100kph time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 175kph. The electric hatchback supports 105kW DC charging, which makes it capable of a 10-80 percent top-up in 24 minutes.
Notably, the standard Polo EV is also offered with the same 52kWh battery alongside a lower-spec 37kWh version. However, the standard car’s 52kWh variants produce 15hp less than the GTI’s, though their claimed range is 30km higher.
The ID Polo GTI gets Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension as standard, which is the manufacturer’s term for adaptive dampers, as well as an electronically lockable front differential borrowed from the ICE-powered Golf GTI. It also features a new GTI driving profile that tweaks the chassis and drive systems to a sportier setup at the touch of a button.
The Volkswagen ID Polo GTI has the same silhouette as the standard Polo EV it is based on. However, it gets new Matrix LED headlights, redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels, a fresh roof-mounted spoiler with a centre split and more aggressive-looking bumpers. GTI badges and a red strip above the front bumper add to its distinct GTI identity.
Other design elements are more or less the same, such as the connected LED light bar at the front, connected LED tail-lights, and illuminated VW logos at the front and rear. More similarities include black outside rearview mirror (ORVM) covers and C-pillar-mounted door handles at the rear.

The cabin layout of the ID Polo GTI is similar to that of the non-GTI version. The only differences are a darker black-and-red theme, GTI badges on the seat backrests and steering, red stitching on seats, steering wheel and door pads, as well as a shiny silver trim at the centre of the dashboard.
The rest has been carried over, including a 10.25-inch driver’s display with retro-themed virtual dials, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, a wireless phone charger and dual-zone climate control. Optional features are also the same, including a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 12-step powered front seats with massage function and a fixed panoramic glass roof.
Volkswagen has stated that the ID Polo GTI will launch in Germany in autumn 2026, “at a price of just under 39,000 euros”, which translates to roughly Rs 43 lakh before taxes and duties.
