Petrol and diesel prices hiked by nearly Rs 3 per litre again

Petrol prices in Delhi have been hiked by Rs 2.61 per litre, whereas diesel prices have risen by Rs 2.71 per litre. As of May 25, the price of petrol in the national capital is Rs 102.12 per litre and that of diesel is Rs 95.20. This is the fourth hike in two weeks, resulting in a cumulative increase of over Rs 7 per litre in both petrol and diesel rates.

Petrol and diesel prices hiked for the fourth time

Following the fourth price hike since revisions began on May 15, 2026, petrol has surged past Rs 100 per litre in the national capital. In Mumbai, it costs Rs 111.21 per litre, up Rs 2.72. Petrol is the most expensive in Hyderabad, retailing at Rs 115.69, followed by Kolkata at Rs 113.51. See the table below for petrol prices in other tier-1 cities.

As for diesel, it now retails for Rs 95.20 per litre in Delhi, Rs 97.83 in Mumbai and Rs 99.82 in Kolkata. In Hyderabad, the price of diesel has gone past Rs 100 per litre and is among the highest in the country at Rs 103.82. For diesel prices in other tier-1 cities, check the table below.

The recent price hike and those before it stemmed from ongoing tensions in the Middle East that continue to keep shipping and trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz volatile. Meanwhile, state-owned oil companies have stated that fuel supplies remain stable and adequate. In one of its earlier statements, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reminded citizens to avoid panic buying in order to “ensure smooth fuel availability for everyone during the ongoing high-demand period.” However, CNG prices haven’t been hiked this time, with the previous revision having been on May 23, 2026.
