LiveWire, the electric motorcycle brand majority-owned by Harley-Davidson, has commenced production of the S4 Honcho Trail and Street – two 125cc-equivalent electric mini-motos. The bikes are being built by KYMCO at its manufacturing facility and are expected to go on sale in the US within the next few months.
The S4 Honcho platform is powered by two removable and swappable battery packs with a combined capacity of 3.48kWh. LiveWire claims a WMTC range of up to 85km. While detailed charging specifications have not yet been disclosed, the company says a 20-80 percent charge takes approximately two hours using a standard 110V household outlet.
Both models share the same powertrain and, interestingly, LiveWire claims identical performance figures despite their differing weights. Acceleration from 0-30mph (48kph) is said to take 3 seconds, while top speed is limited to 59mph (95kph).
The Trail weighs 114.8kg and has a seat height of 812mm, while the Street tips the scales at 120.6kg and gets a lower 787mm seat height. Both ride on 12-inch wheels, but differ in tyre choice. The Trail uses Maxxis knobby tyres, while the Street gets a more road-oriented tread pattern.
The S4 Honcho is manufactured by KYMCO and will be distributed through Harley-Davidson’s dealer network. Its launch marks another step in LiveWire’s broader expansion strategy, which recently also included the acquisition of electric dirt bike startup Dust Moto as the company looks to strengthen its presence in the off-road segment.
In the US, the S4 Honcho Trail is priced at $4,999 (approximately Rs 4.74 lakh), while the Street commands a slight premium at $5,499 (approximately Rs 5.21 lakh).
