With the Long Range Premium RWD variant now discontinued, Tesla offers two variants of the Model Y in India – the Premium RWD and L Premium AWD. 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD powertrain and performance

Tesla usually keeps technical details such as the battery size and electric motor output figures under wraps. However, the Model Y sold in international markets comes with a 64kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor that makes 299hp. The 2026 Model Y rear-wheel-drive variant sold in India has a WLTP range of up to 500km. The premium EV can go from 0-100kph in a claimed 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 201kph. Tesla claims the rear-wheel-drive Model Y can gain up to 238km of charge in 15 minutes, with a DC fast-charging speed of up to 175kW when plugged into a Supercharger.

2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD interior and features

The 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD offers seating for five occupants and is available with an all-black or a Zen Grey interior theme. Tesla claims that the five-seater Model Y has a maximum storage capacity of 2,138 litres. Moreover, this entry-level variant now comes with the brand’s new 16-inch primary touchscreen and an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the rear occupants. In India, the larger screen debuted with the Model Y L variant.

As earlier, all on-board functions are controlled through the large touchscreen up front, which the brand claims has been tweaked for improved responsiveness. Some of the main features of the Tesla Model Y include a panoramic glass roof, a powered tailgate, LED ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, power reclining and folding rear seats, and acoustic glass. The optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature, which costs Rs 6 lakh, currently only supports the automatic parking function, as regulatory approvals in India are pending. However, safety features available now include ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), surround-view cameras and 7 airbags.
